Gunday (2014) - Review

This has a remarkable sequence in the beginning of a Police Officer with sex-yearnings who could not get a woman asks one of the Boys to be left behind in a relief camp. May be the first scene in main-stream cinema showing child-pedophilia. This is visually striking movie with exotic locations which frankly I haven't seen before, beautiful sets and great costumes especially of Priyanka Chopra who plays a Cabaret dancer-cum-police-officer. Ranveer Singh has again done well here.

On the down side some dialogs are not that well written and Arjun Kapoor has done shoddy acting here, he is never believable and its quite surprising as he had done better previously.Irrfan Khan and Saurabh Shukla are great as always.

Its worth watching especially for Priyanka Chopra fans for she is top notch here.

The Doctor Takes a Wife (1940) - Loretta Young

This is a delightful entertainer where a couple is not married but have to live together for their own personal gains after a News-Paper publishes wrong report of them being married. Loretta Young is ravishing as a young writer of a best seller book telling Spinsters and women in general how they can live their life happily without men, that they don't need men to go on in life.

She had to return to city to meet Reginald Gardiner (Publisher) for her new book and as their is no means of transport she hitches a ride with Ray Milland who is staying at the same hotel. She stops at the Post-Office in Greenwich, Connecticut (a town that was known for weddings in bygone days) to send a Telegram and adjacent to it a marriage is taking place. The guy their puts "Just Married" sticker on Ray Milland's car mistakenly. As Loretta is coming out after signing her book for the Lady their, the same woman sees this car with "Just Married" sticker on it and her getting into it. She is quite upset and sends out telegram to a News-Paper of the author having recently married.

Gail Patrick is funny as Ray Milland's girl-friend.Edmund Gwenn is nice as Ray Milland's father.Deftly directed by Alexander Hall and the background score is remarkable in the penultimate scene where Ray realizes that Loretta really loves him.

Cinema Paradiso (1988) - Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film (Italy)

Its a wonderful experience to watch this movie mostly because of the little child star of the movie,it gives us people from outside Italy a peep into Italian life and culture also the location of a coastal Italian city shortly after world-war II is filmed beautifully.Like the first scene of the little town where camera starts from Bells of the church and then passes over them looking on to the main town street.

is a very intelligent child interested in films, he develops a friendship with Alfredo) who is a Projectionist in Cinema Paradiso only Cinema Hall in town.Their are many beautiful and poignant scene between them especially when he acts as if he has sprained his ankle when walking with Father Adelfio to get a ride on bicycle with the Projectionist. And there is this scene where the film reel catches fire,Alfredo tries to stop the fire but get burnt instead.Salvatore is in the street when he sees the flames in Projection room,he runs up the stairs and sees Alfredo lying unconscious. The little child pulls a blanket over him and somehow drags him down the stairs.Alfredo looses his eyesight but he had already taught the little Salvatore everything and he gets the job of the projectionist.

plays teenage Salvatore and he looks kind of cute with his thick eyelashes. He falls in love with pretty Elena (Agnese Nano). There is this beautiful scene between them where a movie is being shown in open air beside the coast with boats floating in the channel and film projected onto a big screen hung over the houses and Salvatore just lies down on the stone side-walk with his head over water and wishes for a storm. And it comes with thunder and lightening and rain and Elena comes too and kisses him on the lips.

Its a nice movie culminating in kissing scenes from great classic movies.Father Adelfio would act as the censor board and ask Alfredo to cut all kissing scenes,he had joined them all together and left for Salvatore before he died.
