DISGUSTING! This Is How Godman Imparts ‘Diksha’

Self-proclaimed Godman - Aasaram Bapu has been accused of rape by a minor (15-year-old) girl. The victim reported that she was being raped by Aasaram Bapu while her parents were sitting in the other room. Disgusting!
Aasaram Bapu, the self-styled Godman sermonised the nation on how the gangrape victim – Nirbhaya would had avoided it all if she would had taken diksha, recited mantras and begged in front of those six beasts who were raping. Aasaram’s sermons made our blood boil in disgust.
But now after seeing this photograph of Aasaram Bapu imparting ‘Diksha’ to a disciple in his unique style, I understand where he is coming from and what kind of sermons he is capable of uttering.

Chennai Express (2013) - Review

Chennai Express is filmed beautifully at exotic virgin locations not seen before in any Hindi film. One of the grandest scene is where the Chennai Express stops and the lead pair get off.A narrow stretch of train-bridge on one side of which  are two cascading water-falls merging into one and on other side is a deep valley down which this waterfall goes surrounded by lush green vegetation. And one of the scene shows train passing through an absolutely charming sweeping landscape which reminds me of the starting scene in this [Walt] Disney [Pictures] logo (2011) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMyHnZ4lV54 .This movie is a visual splendor which is so visible in  "Kashmir Mein Tu Kanyakumari " where a group of Kathakali dancers in most colorful attire join them. This film was shot in Munnar which is a beautiful hill station on the Western Ghats, a range of mountains situated in the Idukki district of the Indian state of Kerala.Scenes were canned at Devikulam Lake, Meesapulimala, Wagavara and Kannimala.Few scenes were shot in North Goa and Dudhsagar Falls (literally Sea of Milk ),a tiered waterfall located on the Mandovi River in the Indian state of Goa on Goa's border with Karnataka state.

"Bann ke titli dil uda" is a nice romantic song that comes at the most apt moment and its the song you hum when you leave theater or on way to your home.Deepika Padukone wears Kanjeevaram saree in this movie and looks great.Shahrukh Khan kept his promise and Deepika Padukone's name comes before him in film's rolling titles.

Nikitin Dheer plays Tangabali and Sathyaraj who was one of the leading heroes of Tamil cinema plays Deepika Padukone's father.Manorma plays Deepika's aunt and she holds the record for being the most prolific actress and also playing the most leading roles. She acted in her 1000th film by 1985 and has done about 1200 films by 2003.An item in the "Ripley's Believe It or Not" newspaper feature has her picture and the accompanying statement: "'Aachi' Manorama, a veteran of India's Tamil film industry, has appeared in more than 1,500 movies and 1,000 stage performances!".

Kamini Kaushal the winner of Best Actress Filmfare award for Bimal Roy's Biraj Bahu (1954) plays Grandmother of Shahrukh Khan.Dilip Kumar in his biography revealed that Kaushal was the first woman he fell in love with. Dilip and Kamini made a popular pairing in the late 1940s appearing in the films 'Shaheed' (1948), 'Nadiya Ke Paar' (1949), 'Shabnam' (1949) and 'Arzoo' (1950).She was still fit and swimming merrily even in her 80 th year,as fit as a fiddle when I last read about her in a Times of India article few years back.

Music by Vishal–Shekhar is good enough giving at least three great songs."One Two Three Four" is a dance song filmed on Priyamani who won Silver Lotus Award at 2007 National Film Awards.
Priyamani won the Best Actress award for her performance in Ameer Sultan's blockbuster Paruthi Veeran(2007), a film on the caste and social chaos. This film was also featured at the Berlin Film Festival recently and won the special jury's award in Asian Panorama.

Rohit Shetty directs this movie well, the director renowned for his Golmaal series movies does a good job here giving us a nice entertaining movie on the festival of Eid.

The strangest thing about the camera-work is that it starts under the actor's feet. Its bizarre because how can you see the Actor or the actor's shoes from down-under an opaque ground. Its a first and an over-the-top sequence just for fun and entertainment.
This film does not show any of the community in bad light or try to ridicule a south Indian as it was assumed initially by a lot of people as Deepika was required to do a south accent. I agree its not completely authentic but the dialogues are so good that the different accents is just to portray the cultural difference. The dialect may become a tad-bit difficult to gauge easily since there is a lot of use of Tamil in the film, you would still know what is going on. Deepika as Meena is fabulous. She seems to have worked quite hard on her Tamil-infused Hindi for the film and she doesn't disappoint.Watch out for the crazy references in songs and scenes to Shah Rukh's previous films.

It's a breath of fresh air to see Deepika donning only traditional attires – mostly Dhaavani's and Kanjivaram sarees matched with beautifully-designed gold jewelry. At the beginning of Shahrukh's Chennai Express journey there is a scene related to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge's train sequence , it's the funniest scene of the movie

Its a great movie for the weekend.

Monsoon and Nostalgia - Rainy season evoking rememberances of pleasant memories

This picture is of Dawn in late July 2013.That's how colorful sky is,be it at dawn or just around Sunset. This Monsoon too brought along with it pleasant cool winds, winds that have not changed since I can remember. It does not matter where I am or how old I get these winds remain the same, blowing softly across my face as I venture out on my roof just after a spell of rain. When the sky is covered with dark grey clouds some seems to swiftly float across the sky blown away by wind.

After the rains especially at night you can hear the far off noises like train-whistles,as you use to hear long time back when you were a kid and there were few houses and fewer people. This cool breeze that seem to caress our body and make us feel so ethereal evoke our sleeping memories, making us remember forgotten things, turning us so nostalgic with remembrances of time gone by.What we used to do when we were little kids in rains, our most pleasant childhood memories.Making us remember all the good times we had in rainy season.Cherishing the memories of moments gone by and remembering with fondness people whom we lost.

If you go for a walk just after the rains you will see the Trees all washed up looking so new and the little song-birds hopping around joyfully. After the hot summer rain infuses fresh life in Nature and soon we see flowers all around and also those funny Mushrooms.Green Frogs and toads, millipede and centipede too become part of our memories, seeing them hopping around or getting scared of them.

Then there is this strange music of cricket singing all night long joined by cicadas and Frogs. Its so incessant and continuous that you are just filled with awe how such small creature make such big noises.

When we were kids we used to make paper-boats and send them floating across little streams that form in rain.Folks reworked their Gardens, pruning shrub planting new flowering plants or just throwing some seeds from the last year dried flowers or ripe vegetables. Most of the kids loved to splash in water puddles or just joyfully bathing in the rain. Most of us associate lovely delicacies with Monsoon which were eaten in plenty with hot Tea.Rakshabandhan and Janmashtami are the two major festivals celebrated in Monsoon season.Krishna was born at mid-night,it was a stormy night and he was carried by his father to safety through dangerous floods.

Kishore Kumar's Love in Bombay releases after 42 years

"Love in Bombay" a Bollywood masala entertainer directed and produced by Romantic Legend Joy Mukherjee released this Friday.Due to some reasons it was never released until after Joy Mukherjee's death his eldest son got it restored and PVR Cinema chains released it.

Definitely its not a classic like Love in Tokyo or Guide, but still its unique and a joy to watch on big screen.Notably Kishore Kumar has a major role here in a comic Maharashtrian avatar. As soon as he comes on screen his Marx brother's like antics create mayhem and pandemonium. This role is quite like he did in Saira Banu's "Padosan".Ashok Kumar his elder brother and a Classic Hindi Movie Icon makes a special appearance at the horse races.

Interestingly Rehman who was smitten with Waheeda in "Chaudhvin Ka Chand"plays her Father.Rehman who is best known for playing Saahib in Guru Dutt's "Sahib Bibi aaur Ghulam" and is one of the greatest supporting actor in Hindi Film history, who started out as a cute Hero opposite Suraiyya in "Badi Bahen".

TunTun makes you laugh out loud wearing Tweeds and a leather Jacket always after her dear Filly "Sharbatiya".Narendra Nath who has set his heart on marrying Waheeda is turned into a Gypsy girl by Joy and Kishore and his father refuses to recognize him in public out of deep shame. For the first time you see Rajendra Nath, the great comedian die in a film, slaughtered by cannibal tribes.

Waheeda Rehman is just wonderful in every scene and in this mad comedy caper cum action flick she manages to show what a great actress she is.She is most attractive in every scene and is as good as Deborah Kerr was in her prime. This movie also shows how since the starting of Film making, film makers have always try to bring sex and intimate scenes into the movie even in a conservative society like ours and few leading ladies did any bold scenes in the classic era.It did not matter even if they were not the part of the story, these scenes were included to titillate audiences and frontbenchers.

Here we see Waheeda in tattered clothes coming out of the ship after a ship-wreck.We see Joy rubbing herbs on her knee to ease her pain after a fall. Then she comes in a tribal flowery dress dancing among half naked cannibal tribesman and you see clearly she is wearing a skin colored body hugging inner and on top of it the skimpy tribal dress. And her introductory scene is in a Bathroom with her suitor Narendra Nath playing peeping tom.

Joy Mukherjee fails to impress as the leading actor. His previous directorial venture "Humsaya" was much better than this film. Here we see him making a complete masala film which later on took 42 years to release.

Shankar Jaikishan's music is pretty average and you don't remember a song after coming out of the Cinema Hall.Though two songs are quite entertaining Kishore Kumar's introductory song "Maaza Naav Ganpat Rao" and the fun song where Narendra Nath is made to dress like a Gypsy girl "Rani Nacho" .

Still you can see this movie for the comic antics of Kishore Kumar and lovely enchantress Waheeda Rehman, for TunTun and silly Narendra Nath, for Joy Mukherjee's Horse Cheeta who plays a pivotal role in the movie and for Kishore Kumar's pet Bear who dances too and chases away goons and fight them to save his friends. Most of the movie is as good as new though in some places sound goes missing and some scenes are blurry.
