Kishore Kumar's Love in Bombay releases after 42 years

"Love in Bombay" a Bollywood masala entertainer directed and produced by Romantic Legend Joy Mukherjee released this Friday.Due to some reasons it was never released until after Joy Mukherjee's death his eldest son got it restored and PVR Cinema chains released it.

Definitely its not a classic like Love in Tokyo or Guide, but still its unique and a joy to watch on big screen.Notably Kishore Kumar has a major role here in a comic Maharashtrian avatar. As soon as he comes on screen his Marx brother's like antics create mayhem and pandemonium. This role is quite like he did in Saira Banu's "Padosan".Ashok Kumar his elder brother and a Classic Hindi Movie Icon makes a special appearance at the horse races.

Interestingly Rehman who was smitten with Waheeda in "Chaudhvin Ka Chand"plays her Father.Rehman who is best known for playing Saahib in Guru Dutt's "Sahib Bibi aaur Ghulam" and is one of the greatest supporting actor in Hindi Film history, who started out as a cute Hero opposite Suraiyya in "Badi Bahen".

TunTun makes you laugh out loud wearing Tweeds and a leather Jacket always after her dear Filly "Sharbatiya".Narendra Nath who has set his heart on marrying Waheeda is turned into a Gypsy girl by Joy and Kishore and his father refuses to recognize him in public out of deep shame. For the first time you see Rajendra Nath, the great comedian die in a film, slaughtered by cannibal tribes.

Waheeda Rehman is just wonderful in every scene and in this mad comedy caper cum action flick she manages to show what a great actress she is.She is most attractive in every scene and is as good as Deborah Kerr was in her prime. This movie also shows how since the starting of Film making, film makers have always try to bring sex and intimate scenes into the movie even in a conservative society like ours and few leading ladies did any bold scenes in the classic era.It did not matter even if they were not the part of the story, these scenes were included to titillate audiences and frontbenchers.

Here we see Waheeda in tattered clothes coming out of the ship after a ship-wreck.We see Joy rubbing herbs on her knee to ease her pain after a fall. Then she comes in a tribal flowery dress dancing among half naked cannibal tribesman and you see clearly she is wearing a skin colored body hugging inner and on top of it the skimpy tribal dress. And her introductory scene is in a Bathroom with her suitor Narendra Nath playing peeping tom.

Joy Mukherjee fails to impress as the leading actor. His previous directorial venture "Humsaya" was much better than this film. Here we see him making a complete masala film which later on took 42 years to release.

Shankar Jaikishan's music is pretty average and you don't remember a song after coming out of the Cinema Hall.Though two songs are quite entertaining Kishore Kumar's introductory song "Maaza Naav Ganpat Rao" and the fun song where Narendra Nath is made to dress like a Gypsy girl "Rani Nacho" .

Still you can see this movie for the comic antics of Kishore Kumar and lovely enchantress Waheeda Rehman, for TunTun and silly Narendra Nath, for Joy Mukherjee's Horse Cheeta who plays a pivotal role in the movie and for Kishore Kumar's pet Bear who dances too and chases away goons and fight them to save his friends. Most of the movie is as good as new though in some places sound goes missing and some scenes are blurry.
