Jai Ho - Review

Its a very violent very sad film, preachy at times and a little dragging at some places,a remake of Chiranjeevi starer "Stalin" which in turn was inspired from "Pay it Forward" starring Helen Hunt and Kevin Spacey.

The way Salman gets battered up may remind you of "Tere Naam".Emotional scenes are well enacted and make you cry. Also the message this film imparts is a good one and is an apt release on this Republic Day.Its like B.R.Chopra genre movie like "Naya Daur" which had "Saathi Haath Badhana" here we have "If I help you please help 3 others".

The actor to look forward in this movie that made the audience laugh most is child actor Naman Jain.He is just so wonderful and natural in every frame he is and steals every scene away from his fellow stars.Daisy Shah is great in this film and her intro scene where she dances with sea skyline in backdrop is scintillating.Though what was Sohail Khan thinking,I could definitely see trash lying around on steps Tabu and Naman were sitting.Though his direction is good but at places you feel not enough care was taken about set decoration.

Tabu is just as effortless as always. We have a great supporting cast of Danny,Suniel Shetty,Mohnish Bahal,Aditya Pancholi and Mahesh Manjrekar.Mukul Dev is miscast as a villain for he looks so friendly and reminds you of R..Rajkumar.Nadira Babbar does well too making us giggle at this funny mom's role of Salman. Its equally nice to see Vatsal Seth here.

"Baki sab First Class" from Jai Ho may remind you of a song from Vinod Khanna movie Mere Apne "Haal Chaal Thik Thaak Hai".

"Tumko to Aana hi tha" is beautiful love song."Tere Naina maar hi dalenge" too is good.

Stupidest accident I ever saw

Their is a  shady lane that leads to the railway Colony in front of Alambagh Police Station. As I was returning from office and took this  less traveled route grown-up calf which was grazing beside the road suddenly turned around and jumped on a couple coming on a motorcycle, knocked them down and galloped to the other side and beyond. The guy somehow recovered and got up while the woman was in severe pain as she fell on hard road and motorcycle on top of her.People ran to help them and with the help of good Samaritan traveling by a car took them to hospital.

My Niece Ravyanshi

"Boys Do Cry" especially if they are watching Yaariyan (2014)

Boys went all emotional and had wet eyes while watching Yaariyan which is all about friendship and love. Two scenes that stand out in making this a 12 hanky movie is the song "Meri Maa" acted brilliantly by Himansh Kohli and the scene where he looses his friend, when he succumbs to his injuries.A guy said during interval "Yaar! kitni achchi picture hai, meri to ankhein bheeg gayi".Few of these scenes are so well enacted that they move you to tears, could see women crying hysterically into their handkerchiefs and boys trying hard to control their emotions and stop tears from coming out.

And I still love to hear "sunny sunny" and "A.B.C.D." whenever I get time or watch these songs on you-tube or music channels.

Yaariyan - An advance gift for your Valentine from Bollywood

Yaariyan is like a advance gift from Bollywood for your Valentine.Valentine Day is just a month away and this romantic musical has songs that will be on every love lorn lips. With lovely court-ship songs like "Love me Thoda Aur" (Love me a little more) and the song that has taken the nation by a storm "Is Darde Dil Ki Sifarish",Urdu rich lyrics with music that express yearnings of a loving heart,it will remain top of the charts.

We also have beautiful cinematography capturing the virgin beauty of Sikkim and exquisitely built beautiful sets enhancing visual appeal of romantic songs. And "A.B.C.D." has become the latest chart topper party song from Yo Yo Honey Singh.I had never before liked his songs much but this has a innocence about it and is such a fun song and is sung beautifully."Meri Maa" would certainly become a quintessential Mother's Day song.

"Sunny Sunny Yaariyan" is another great Beach Party song from this movie. It makes you feel like spring, like its a nice day with sunny blue skies and so a great day for a party. Its funny how this song reminded me of a "Nau Do Gyarah" song "Kya ho jo din rangeela ho,ret chamki samandar neela ho aur Aakash geela ho" (what if its a colorful day,the sand is shining, the sea is blue and the sky is wet). This was also a party song from a Dev Anand classic from 1957 filmed on Shashi Kala playing a seductress Bar singer.

And 'Allah Waariyan" song and the movie as a whole celebrate friendship too. This film may remind you of two Aamir Khan movies "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander" and Lagaan.

Yaariyan (2014) - Review

Yaariyan has a brilliant soundtrack which was a nice surprise to me for I have not heard its music before, just saw some promos."Meri Maa" song is like an anthem and very emotional, and this movie has several scenes which may bring tears to your eyes. Also its an eye-candy of a movie besides beautiful girls it has lovely locales of Sikkim,Darjeeling,Australia and St. Bede's College Shimla. Its story is reminiscent of Aamir Khan's "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander" and like it has a cycle race too.

Film is weak on script level and some scenes especially in the beginning are haphazard and silly but it has its heart at the right place, plus its youthful exuberance is a breath of fresh air.Himansh Kohli plays the lead character,he may not be your average Bollywood hero type for he looks like just any other teenager ,but he performs pretty well here.Especially in the heart-breaking scene where his friend dies after being assaulted by some Australians and he does not know how he will tell the news to Deepti Naval who plays his friend's mother,he also is reminded of his rudeness to his own mother.

Deepti Naval and Smita Jaykar play the two mothers here and both are just great.Gulshan Grover gives a controlled performance here.Divya Khosla Kumar the debutant director has done quite well here.Rakul Preet Singh as Saloni is nice here and so is Dev Sharma as Neil.

ABCD by Honey Singh,Allah Waariyan composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee and sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali and "Baarish" are three other great songs from this movie besides "Meri Maa". Baarish was released on 29 Nov 2013. It crossed 1 million views on Youtube in 2 days.

This is another nice movie from T-series after Aashiqui2 and young audience especially loved the movie.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) mind-numbing debauchery and profanity

The Wolf on Wall Street was a mind-numbing experience which surprisingly proved to be a stress-buster for the guy their was in so much more trouble than my daily little problems or work-place tensions. Its a film dripping in debauchery, excesses in drugs, alcohol and women. Its a film about greed where share-brokers dupe people and rant against their own country. Its engrossing but way too long, you just wonder when it will end.Martin Scorsese direction and some great performances make it a must see.

who looks cute and plays Agent Patrick Denham is given Leonardo's case and brings his downfall ultimately.Leonardo DiCaprio is great here and performs convincingly and yes there's his nude bed scene love-making scene near the movie climax before his second wife divorces him.
Rob Reiner plays Leonardo's father and has a pivotal role here.Matthew McConaughey plays Leonardo's colleague in the beginning and there is a very funny interesting scene between them where he shares his share-broking tips with Leonardo.Lots of other good performances here and many great scenes too.Though if you hate nudity, profanity, drugs, alcohol, cursing and swearing against your own country and excessive debauchery shown in movies, better avoid this one for it has a record breaking usage of "F" words and has 100 times more debauchery than you saw in "Dev-D".

Subramaniam Swami turns Arnab Goswami's New Hour on Times Now into a Comedy Show

Only Subramaniam Swami can tackle Arnab Goswami and he talks sense too when he objects to media witch-hunting when ever an allegation is leveled without a proper investigation.I can't help laughing when he keeps calling a panel woman naxalite and that "Naxalites believe in free sex" and keeps repeating it.He stops Arnab's bullying and putting words in people's mouth,if Arnab alleges something he puts a counter-allegation.There are other funny things too that have happened whenever he had come on Newshour which I can't remember now.To me he is as great as Monty Woolley was in "The Man who came to Dinner".

Sholay 3D - Review

Sholay in 3D is just a wow! experience, things just keep flying out of the screen and you actually tend to blink to avoid them.Action in 3D is just so real and the panoramic backdrop comes alive on big screen in vibrant colors. You just wish they bring out a game based on this movie, its so exciting and dramatic.Amitabh Bachchan never looked that attractive and charming and Dharmendra's acting just got top notch. Its 208 minute long but time just flows by for the film is so engrossing.

I had seen the film earlier but in bits and pieces and never till climax, also I read somewhere it had two climaxes. Its a treat for the eye clear blue skis with just a hint of clouds, lush green grasslands and valleys, clear placid Lakes and meandering rivers, plus the big mountain rocks black and grey, these are the vistas where this one of the greatest movie of all times was filmed.

"Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin" is a great swan song of friendship over all generations.Gabbar Singh's dialogs have a cult status. And Hema Malini as Basanti is very very funny playing a talkative village girl.Watching Sanjeev Kumar on silver screen is a pleasure and here he shows what a fine actor he was.Jaya Bhaduri has a great role here of a widow and its so contrasting when in flashback she is shown as a chirpy little joyous girl.

Its a great watch,go and enjoy this film now fully restored and in 3D for Big Screen.
