Yaariyan (2014) - Review

Yaariyan has a brilliant soundtrack which was a nice surprise to me for I have not heard its music before, just saw some promos."Meri Maa" song is like an anthem and very emotional, and this movie has several scenes which may bring tears to your eyes. Also its an eye-candy of a movie besides beautiful girls it has lovely locales of Sikkim,Darjeeling,Australia and St. Bede's College Shimla. Its story is reminiscent of Aamir Khan's "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander" and like it has a cycle race too.

Film is weak on script level and some scenes especially in the beginning are haphazard and silly but it has its heart at the right place, plus its youthful exuberance is a breath of fresh air.Himansh Kohli plays the lead character,he may not be your average Bollywood hero type for he looks like just any other teenager ,but he performs pretty well here.Especially in the heart-breaking scene where his friend dies after being assaulted by some Australians and he does not know how he will tell the news to Deepti Naval who plays his friend's mother,he also is reminded of his rudeness to his own mother.

Deepti Naval and Smita Jaykar play the two mothers here and both are just great.Gulshan Grover gives a controlled performance here.Divya Khosla Kumar the debutant director has done quite well here.Rakul Preet Singh as Saloni is nice here and so is Dev Sharma as Neil.

ABCD by Honey Singh,Allah Waariyan composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee and sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali and "Baarish" are three other great songs from this movie besides "Meri Maa". Baarish was released on 29 Nov 2013. It crossed 1 million views on Youtube in 2 days.

This is another nice movie from T-series after Aashiqui2 and young audience especially loved the movie.
