Lucknow Mahotsav 2011

My Aunt buying some nice bags.

Krishna Nritya Natika by Brij Lok Kala Foundation directed by Raju Sharma.Krishna turns into Peacock and dances for Radha when Radha yearns to see Peacock dance.Once Radha wanted to sea Peacock dance,Krishna learned about her yearnings. Then He thought, “Why can’t I become a peacock and dance right in front of Radha Rani?” So He became a peacock. Of course He was the most charming and skilled of the peacocks and in His delightfully naughty way, He pushed Himself right to the front. Then He danced and danced for His Radha Rani, absorbed by Her love. The place of this leela is called Mor Kuti.Nritya Natika (Musical) on this episode was shown in Village Fair (Krishi Mahotsava).

POTTERY OF CHINHAT Lucknow :- Chinhat, which is in Lucknow district in central Uttar Pradesh, also originally a potter`s village, is a smaller cluster for ceramics and glazed terracotta.Chinhat ceramics have a rough appeal and characteristics green
and brown glazes. The low plasticity of clay makes throwing a little difficult so most of the forms are cast.Firing in Chinhat is done at 1180 to 1200 centigrade. It has a big domestic market and also export to Europe and Saudi Arabia.

This grand Piece of architecture was the center of attraction at Lucknow Mahotsava.People going around it in awe and taking picture and videos.Mahotsava was spread in a field near Smriti Upvan near Bangla Bazaar. For security against fire etc. shops are spread far around with vast spaces in between.Their was a separate corner for food stalls.A separate space at the far north end  exit gate for the Krishi Mahotsava. And just adjacent to it a temporary auditorium for cultural programs.Near to the the south end exit gate were the merry-go-roundscarousel,roundabouts and other amusement rides, plus the Death well or in hindi "Maut Ka Kuan".

Emu Farming :- At Krishi Mahotsava they told us how profitable is Emu farming and how they live for 40 years laying eggs all their life.

Rockstar (2011)

It was a dismal movie experience,I had heard and read good things about movie but it turned out to be a ordeal to watch this movie.Even the music is drab and lyrics are just clumsily written. The only good things about this movie is its cool cinematography, beautiful locales breathtakingly captured and Nargis too sometimes reminds me of young Julia Roberts.

Ranbeer is good here and their especially in his college days otherwise he seems shallow and play acting. His youthful years are done really well and very different from any of his previous works.Imtiaz Ali is a great let down, direction and script are both shoddy. His previous movies have been so good but this is bad.Shammi Kapoor is good in his last appearance.Better see it on DVD where you can fast forward. It does draw inspiration from "Baiju Bawra" which had a similar character. Also it may remind you of "Rock On".Few people were in the theater and few had any good words for this dismal movie.Rather see "Stage Door" at home which stars Katharine Hepburn,Rockstar's last seen reminded me of this gem of a movie where a room-mate's tragic suicidal death inspires Hepburn's performance onstage as if her spirit guided her through it.Avoid "Rockstar" sheer waste of time and money.

All Mine to Give (1957)

Its a Family movie with a climax that shows us what true Christmas Spirit is all about.A couple from Scotland come to America to their relative who dies before they arrive in a house fire. They settle down their rebuild the home, soon the house get filled with kids. They have six children one of them gets Diptheria which catches on to the Father who dies and the mother too soon dies of Typhoid. Before going away she asks her eldest son to find good homes for his siblings.Good families which will take care of them as their own.On the Christmas eve he and his siblings set out to get themselves adopted. Its a nice touching old world movie.

Teacher's Pet (1958)

Clark Gable here looks very common and ordinary trying hard to impress Doris Day.Its a movie about whether experience is more important or professional training or studies too matter.Gable plays editor of a Newspaper who thinks journalism is taught by experience and rubbishes training course for Journalism. He writes a offensive letter to Doris Day who teaches Journalism and is sent by his Boss later to say sorry to her,he ends up enrolling in her class and falling madly in love with her. Doris Day herself is the Daughter of Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, she is lovely and composed here.Gig Young who plays her over accomplished boy friend is quite charming. His scenes with Clark Gable are a joy to watch. The movie is very well written and drives home its point wonderfully about the necessity of professional education.

The Adventures of Tintin (2011)

Its a very intricately done movie and the backgrounds are done really well and to add to all this its in Glorious 3D.It has the best 3D effects I have seen ever. Each scene is so meticulous and elaborate that you have to see it twice to intake the full movie. One glance you miss and you loose something wonderful.

The story is what we all have read and seen many times.Their are three miniature Ship models which have clues to a treasure. The film engrosses you from the start where a kleptomaniac is pickpocketing while TinTin is getting his portrait done.At his apartment their are fun scenes between the House Cat and Snowy, their chase turns quite exciting enlivened by John Williams music.Their journey on a Sea Plane wrestled away from crooks is breathtaking.TinTin's adventure continue to the Desert City where the whole town is build on mountains and rocks. The Opera Singer's Shrill voice breaks the glass and the trained bird carries away the ship and takes out the clue from it.The chase sequences around the desert city involving Snowy and the Bird,Tintin,Captain Haddock and Ivanovich Sakharine plus all the other people is quite marvelous. The City is done vividly, backgrounds look very real and the whole chase sequence become the most exciting part of this wondrous offering from Steven Spielberg. It was great to see it in 3D.

Immortals (2011) Review

PVR Phoenix this Friday started showing 3D movies. This was the first movie I saw their in glorious 3D filled with visual splendour.Scenes had depth, clarity, vibrant colours  and quite bright. The film is based on Greek mythology depicting epic struggle between Theseus and King Hyperion.Tarsem Singh directs this wonderful saga deftly their are lot of scenes with blood and gore though.

Freida Pinto plays a priestess with power of vision of future who guides Theseus in his journey.Henry Cavill is wonderful as Theseus,he has a great body and performs well in action scenes.King Hyperion is played by Mickey Rourke who performs this hateful and hideous character with aplomb.John Hurt is nice as Theseus teacher who is actually Zeus in disguise. Its a super-exciting movie to watch.

Aman becomes Nice

Aman my little 4 year old nephew seems to be leaving his mischief filled days behind,he came yesterday on Bakreid with Badi Mami.Though he called me a thief and some obscenities and locked the Bathroom door from outside while I was Bathing, but it was clear he considers me 'family' also when I was harsh with him he still was good natured  knowing in his mind that I was bluffing or I will get better. We went outside cycling he asked me to buy chewing gums for him. Then we went to ATM too to draw money.

His friends at his house are Abhishek and his sister,he goes out for long stroll with them to the park or beyond the road, his mother and now a days Badi Mami too get worried a lot.Abhishek and his sister told me tales of Big Monkeys that they had in their Village and the Rickshaw Colony Boys who enter houses and steal,it was so funny their lucid expressions and wild gesticulations seemed to make their tale a lot exciting.

19 th Nov.

Aman wanted to go for a ride,I refused. He climbed on to the bike and dis-balanced it,It fell on the ground thankfully Aman had the sense to get away from it and he was not hurt.

Miley Naa Miley Hum - 2011 - Review

Again this week a nice movie with some good performances.Chirag Paswan has done well in his debut movie. But what is so good in this movie is that after a long time we see Poonam Dhillon and Kabir Bedi at their respective best.Poonam Dhillon looks beautiful and has great screen presence,Kabir Bedi after a string of old haggard roles is a macho man type here with powerful booming voice and overpowering personality.Camera work is absolutely lovely and innovative here compared to recent movies which give no importance to it.Camera captures the great beauty of hill-side Vineyard as well as the sun setting beyond the Ocean.Songs are not great but OK type.Dalip Tahil again impresses after his RA-One role here he is as a Sardar. Its a easy to watch movie where Chirag is a tennis player with estranged Parents.Kangana seems very ordinary here though people did find her funny and amusing reminds me of Marilyn Monroe.

Neelu's Troubles

On Bhaidooj I and Abha Mausi with Anjali her daughter went to visit Neelu, she was fine then. This week her mom told me she had viral fever, she stayed at home for days not consulting any physician. Her mother in law recently visited her and was shocked to see her so sick. She took her to the Base military hospital where she forgot Neelu's bag near the water cooler. When she returned the bag was gone and so was the Mobile Phone,ATM Card and Canteen Card.Pretty bad luck.

Tell Me O Kkhuda (2011) - Review

What ever critics may say this is nice fresh movie from Hema Malini though can't say that about its lead cast.Esha Deol is not at her best though she performs with energy. The hero just so and so.But the exotic locales and culture are captured beautifully ,Hema's way of story-telling keeps you interested  and the treatment of the movie is quite youthful.Their is Dharmendra in Salman's hairstyle which seems hilariously odd at first.

Deepti Naval and Farooq Shaikh are here together as a cuple again and they and Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna provide good support to the movie along with Dharmendra. Its about a adopted girl searching for her real Parents.Johnny Lever too is good his movie appearances have dwindled in years.Madhoo too is here in the Rajasthan episode which is filmed beautifully the Camel race is quite exciting and Esha performs well their.Rameshwari too is good.Salman has an item number in the end.Its a nice fresh interesting movie.

RA. One (2011) 3D - Review

RA.One in 3D at PVR Saharaganj Lucknow was lovely, the picture was much brighter background more clear and the first half hour had good 3D effects.2D version that I saw in PVR Phoenix was a little on dull side.PVR Phoenix people always put on dull projection of movies which was evident in "Hum Dono" which I saw later at Novelty in fabulous colours.

Priyanka Chopra in the beginning is quite good more good in 3D.Shahrukh is more designed on "He-Man" their. His starting look of a Tamil guy reminds me too much of Estelle Getty of "Stop or my mom will shoot" and "Golden Girls" fame. Both have same sort of eyes and hair style.Satish Shah too seems quite good and in touch.Shahana Goswami too is good here and acts well plays an important role.Dalip Tahil too is great in 3D good in comic scenes too.Tom Wu is funny in some scenes and plays RA.One too in first half.

On second viewing movie still seemed time-pass stuff.Songs still seem nice and melodious.Backgrounds like trees etc. seemed vivid eye candy .In first half hour 3D is fabulous.Later on not not much comes out of the screen.Kareena again is gorgeous and lovely here she performs graciously and her negative bid is shocking and great. One sad song is pictured on her after Shahrukh's character dies and she acts really well their. And 3D version is running still to almost full house.Though their was a little kid who kept saying "Ye Gandi Picture hai, achchi picture nahin hai yahan se chalo" (this is not a good film ts a bad film please mom lets go home) to his parents.Recommend it for its 3D,Music and Kareena.Go watch it.
