Shanghai (2012) Review

Director Dibakar Banerjee's (Oye Lucky!Lucky Oye,Khosla Ka Ghosla) treatment of the subject is a mix of  Jack Nicholson's "Chinatown" with Orson Welles "The Lady from Shanghai" which starred Rita Hayworth. His scene conception is more like those art movies from 80's which does seem leaning towards boring but interesting story and witty dialogues stop it from being that. Also great effort has been put into bringing to life each character. This is Emraan Hashmi's best work till date,he is common, simple, lovable and gives his strange grin, smile with those strange set of teeth more like Ugly Betty smiling at you.Girls and female audiences in the theater loved his new look, and found him quite cute.

Abhay Deol too does a good job here as does Kalki Koechlin.Farooque Sheikh and Supriya Pathak too play important roles here. This is quite a realistic movie which entertains too.
