The Jatropha can be categorized as a tropical shrub or small tree that
makes a beautiful accent in any landscape. The tree is fast growing
with dramatic scarlet flowers that bloom year-round. This shrub, which
is native to the West Indies and especially well-known from Cuba, is a
tropical evergreen with glossy leaves and gorgeous clusters of star-like
bright red flowers which bloom year-round. It can grow in a rounded
domed shape up to 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide but it can also be
pruned as a smaller hedge. The plant is tolerant of different soils and
does well in full sun to partial shade. It is also drought tolerant.
